Bios of NYFS Members



Abby Adams-Silvan, PhD, is a graduate of Barnard College and received her PhD from Columbia University. Her post-doctoral training was at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. Dr. Adams is now a Clinical Professor and supervisor in that program. She is also on the faculty of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS, where she is a Training and Supervising Analyst, and a Past-President. She is a member of IPTAR, and a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association, where she served for 15 years as North American Associate Editor of International Psychoanalysis: News Magazine of the IPA. Dr. Adams has published on a variety of topics including the psychodynamics of hysterical trauma and phobias, treating a dying patient, aspects of dream analysis, teaching techniques, and psychoanalytic listening. She is in private practice in New York City.

Thomas E. Allen, MD, FIPA, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Baltimore. He is a Training and Supervising psychoanalyst in the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS - DC Program, Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology at George Washington University, Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Fellow of the American College of Psychoanalysts, Past President of: Med Chi the Maryland State Medical Society, the Baltimore County Medical Association, the Maryland Psychiatric Society, the Baltimore/Washington Psychoanalytic Society, and the Maryland Foundation for Psychiatry. He is a graduate of Princeton University and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Bonnie Asnes, LCSW, is a graduate of the of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS and a member of the New York Freudian Society and the Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy of New Jersey. Her training is in adult, adolescent and child psychoanalysis. She is a member of the psychoanalytic psychotherapy committee of PTI of NYFS and teaches Adult Development in the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program. She is in private practice in Manhattan and in Englewood, New Jersey.

Sheldon Bach, PhD, is a psychoanalyst in practice in Manhattan. He is Clinical Professor of Psychology at the New York University Post- Doctoral Program in Psychoanalysis, a Training and Supervising analyst at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS and the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research and a Visiting Lecturer at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute.

Alan Bass, PhD, Licensed Psychoanalyst, is in the private practice of psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, and supervision In Manhattan. He is a Training Analyst and faculty member at IPTAR and NPAP, and on the graduate faculty of the New School for Social Research. He has written many articles and book reviews, and has presented at many psychoanalytic institutes. He is also well known for his translations of works by Jacques Derrida.

Jerome S. Blackman, MD, FAPA, FIPA, FACOPSA, certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and in psychoanalysis by the Board on Professional Standards of the American Psychoanalytic Association, practices psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, and forensic psychiatry in Virginia Beach, VA. As Adjunct Professor of Psychology, he has taught psychoanalytic diagnosis, psychopathology, and analytic technique to undergraduates and grad students at Virginia Wesleyan College & Old Dominion University. He is currently also Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, where he teaches psychiatry residents and psychology interns, and ran the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies, a continuing education program, from 1989 to 2001. As a Training and Supervising Analyst associated with the Washington, D.C. NYFS, he has helped train future psychoanalysts. In 2004, he was an invited lecturer in the Educational Studies Program at MIT. He holds teaching awards from the American Psychoanalytic Association and Eastern Virginia Medical School; at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA, where he has taught for 19 years, the Teacher of the Year Award was named after him in 1992. He has also been honored by election to Fellowship in the American College of Psychoanalysts (FACOPSA), and Fellowship in the American Psychiatric Association (FAPA). He has served on the Boards of Directors of Associated Catholic Charities, Jewish Children's Regional Service, Volunteers of America Infant Nursery, and The Virginia Opera.

Monica Blauner, LCSW, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Los Angeles, treating adults. She has worked extensively with trauma, chemical dependency, lesbians and gay men. A clinical supervisor and teacher, her courses have included "Neurosis," "Narcissism," "A Comprehensive Course on Chemical Dependency," "Understanding the Addicted Person," and "Understanding Trauma."

Jane F. Buckwalter, LCSW, FIPA, is a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist in private practice in Park Slope, Brooklyn, treating children and adolescents as well as adults. She was formerly a psychotherapist and supervisor at Brooklyn Center for Families in Crisis; Assistant Unit Chief, Adult Inpatient Service, Kings County Hospital Department of Psychiatry; Social Work Supervisor, Psychiatric Day Hospital, Kings County Hospital; Brooklyn Coordinator for Metropolitan Placement Unit, Willowbrook Exodus; and psychotherapist, Brooklyn Community Counseling Center and Pittsburgh Family and Children’s Service. She is certified in adult and child and adolescent psychoanalysis by NYFS, has a post-Master’s Certificate in Clinical Social Work from NYU School of Social Work, an MSW from the University of Pittsburgh, and a BA from Swarthmore College. She has taught at the Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, been co-teacher in the Child and Adolescent Program of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS, and currently supervises for the NY Institute for Psychotherapy Training in Infancy, Childhood and Adolescence.

Ani Buk, MA, LP, LCAT, FIPA, is a New York State Licensed psychoanalyst and art therapist in private practice on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, where she works with children, adolescents, adults and couples. A Fellow of the International Psychoanalytical Association, she has twenty-five years of diverse clinical experience. She is a Training and Supervising Analyst, and an instructor, in the Adult Psychoanalysis Program of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS. She is also a graduate of The Institute for Child, Adolescent and Family Studies. A nationally recognized trauma specialist, her work and recommendations have been featured in newspapers and periodicals such as The New York Times, US News & World Report, The Chicago Tribune, and Scholastic News. Ms. Buk has been on the faculty of the Graduate Art Therapy Program of New York University since 1993, and was a faculty member of the Department of Psychiatry of Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1996-2007. She has been a consultant for Doctors of the World, Safe Horizon, The Children's Advocacy Center of Manhattan, and other agencies in the New York area. She has presented at numerous local, state and national conferences, universities, hospitals, and other organizations, including the United Nations, on a wide range of topics related to parent guidance, trauma, vicarious traumatization, refugee issues, art therapy, and the psychology of the artist.

Nancy Cromer-Grayson, LCSW, is a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Manhattan. She is a graduate of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS and the New York School for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. She is on the faculty of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS psychotherapy program and the Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She is a clinical supervisor in the psychology internship program at the Karen Horney Clinic. Ms. Cromer-Grayson received the 2003 NYFS Plumsock Prize for her paper, "The Opening and Closing of Doors: Chronic Syntonic Acting Out." For over twenty years she was on the Board and served as the Vice President of the American Anorexia and Bulimia Association. She continues to specialize in the area of eating disorders.

Pasquale De Blasi, Jr., PhD, is a psychoanalyst in private practice of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy of adults and adolescents, and clinical supervision on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, NY. He is a Graduate, Training and Supervising Analyst of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the New York Freudian Society; a Fellow, Training and Supervising Analyst of the International Psychoanalytical Association; a Graduate of the National Psychoanalytic Association for Psychoanalysis Training Institute; and a faculty member of the Chinese American Psychoanalytic Alliance. He holds faculty appointments with the rank of Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Preventive Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association and the Faculty Psychotherapy Conference, Department of Psychiatry, Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In addition to advanced training in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute, he completed a clinical externship in the Early Childhood Program, Bernard L. Pacella Parent Child Center, New York Psychoanalytic Institute. He was Clinical Consultant to Bard College Counseling Service, 1990-2002, and the Louis August Jonas Foundation’s Camp Rising Sun (an international scholarship camp for teenagers), 1993-2000. He was a past member of the Ernst Kris Study Group, moderated by Charles Brenner, MD, 2001-2008. He was Clinical Consultant and a member of the Adjunct Medical Staff/Allied Health Professional, Internal Medicine Service of Northern Dutchess Hospital, 1989-2008. He holds the Doctor of Philosophy degree from Columbia University (doctoral mentor: Alfred J. Kahn, DSW).

Paula L. Ellman, PhD, ABPsaP, FIPA, is a Clinical Psychologist Psychoanalyst in private practice in Rockville, Maryland. She is Specialty Board Certified in Psychoanalysis by the American Board of Professional Psychology. She is a Training and Supervising Analyst, and Permanent Faculty at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS. She is Co-Chair of The Central Concepts of Dynamic Psychotherapy Training Program at the Washington School of Psychiatry. She is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology at The George Washington University PsyD Program.

Susan S. Elmendorf, LICSW, BCD, is a clinical social worker and psychoanalyst in private practice in Washington, DC. She specializes in intensive individual therapies with adults. She is a training/supervising analyst and a permanent faculty member of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS. She is also on the faculty of the Washington School of Psychiatry.

Prudence Emery, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker and psychoanalyst in private practice. Ms. Emery's practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis includes adults, adolescents, couples, and groups. She is a Diplomate of the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work and a Certified Group Psychotherapist. She is a lecturer in Social Work, Department of Psychiatry, North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY, as well as a Consultant in Group Therapy, Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services, New York, NY. In addition, she is a Clinical Supervisor, Doctoral Sub-program in Clinical Psychology, at the City University of New York, New York, NY. Ms. Emery is currently President of the Psychoanalytic Practitioners of Long Island and Clinical Editor of Nassau Newsnotes, the newsletter of the Nassau chapter of the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work.

Vivian Eskin, PhD, is a psychoanalyst in Manhattan, with a private practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis that includes adults, couples, adolescents, groups and the treatment of problems that parents have with infants and toddlers. She is a graduate of both the Adult Psychoanalysis Program and the Anni Bergman Parent-Infant Program of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS. She is a training and supervising analyst, and has taught courses on Stages of Adulthood, and Narcissism, Schizoid Phenomena, Psychotic Ideation and Primitive Anxieties, at the PTI of NYFS; Narcissistic and Borderline States at The Metropolitan Institute for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy; Pregnancy and the Psychological Birth of Mothers and Fathers at The Family Forensics Training Program of the Washington Square Institute; and Grief, Loss and Bereavement, Interpersonal Skills of Communication, and Clinical Practice at the NYU School of Social Work. Dr. Eskin has published articles pertaining to the Holocaust, ambiguous loss and mourning; a description of her work with "The Ladies in Waiting," a support group for wives and mothers of soldiers deployed in Afghanistan; and "When A Parent Gets Deployed."  She is fluent in Hebrew and English, and is a member of the IPA, NASW, and CIPS.

Edwin Fancher, MA, FIPA, is a psychoanalyst in the private practice of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy in Manhattan. He is a Training and Supervising Analyst, and a faculty member, of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS. He is also the founding president of the New York School for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, as well as chair of the Curriculum Committee, and a supervisor and faculty member. He is a Fellow of the International Psychoanalytical Association, and a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association and of Section One of the Division of Psychoanalysis of the American Psychological Association.

Judith Felton, LCSW, is a psychoanalyst in Manhattan, with a private practice in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis (adolescents and adults). Ms. Felton is a training and supervising analyst at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS as well as chairperson of the Progression Committee of PTI of NYFS. Additionally, she is on the faculty of the Metropolitan Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.

Emily Flint, MSW, is in the private practice of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy with adults, couples and families in New York City. She is a member of the permanent faculty of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS, and previously held the position of Director of Training. In addition, she was the President of NYFS from 1994-1996, and is a member of the IPA Committee on the United Nations.

Elizabeth Fritsch, PhD, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in McLean Virginia, specializing in the treatment of adults, couples, and children. Dr. Fritsch received her BA from Princeton University and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the George Washington University. She is a training and supervising analyst and faculty member of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS's Washington Program. Additionally, she has taught at the George Washington University's Professional Psychology program and the Washington School of Psychiatry. She has special interests in groups and organizations, psychoanalytic listening and female psychology.

Helen K. Gediman, PhD, ABPP, FIPA, is a magna cum laude graduate of Radcliffe College of Harvard University and received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from New York University. She received her psychoanalytic training at the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, and is now Clinical Professor of Psychology at NYU. She is also on the faculty, and is a Training and Supervision Analyst, at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS, where she has served on its Board of Directors as both Member-at-Large and Recording Secretary. Dr. Gediman is also a member of IPTAR, the IPA, and the American Psychoanalytic Association. Currently, she is on the Board of Directors of Sections I (Psychologist-Psychoanalyst Practioners) and III (Women) of Division 39, Psychoanalysis, American Psychological Associaton, and has been on the Board of Directors of CIPS (the Confederation of Independent Societies of the IPA). She has published extensively in psychoanalytic journals, and has authored and/or co-authored three books. She is in private practice in Manhattan.

Debra Gill, LCSW, is a psychoanalyst in Manhattan. She is a member of the New York Freudian Society, the International Psychoanalytical Association, The Metropolitan Society for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists and a Fellow at The New York State Society for Clinical Social Work. She is a faculty member and supervisor at the Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and a visiting faculty member at the American Institute for Psychoanalysis. She is also a supervisor in the psychology intern program of the Karen Horney Clinic and a supervisor for the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS Psychotherapy Program.

Geoff Goodman, PhD, is a graduate of the Adult Psychoanalysis Program of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS, and Associate Professor of Psychology at Long Island University. He is also a licensed clinical and school psychologist with a private practice in Manhattan and New City, New York. Dr. Goodman received a Bachelor of Science degree from M.I.T. in 1983, a Master of Arts degree in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University in 1986, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Clinical Psychology from Northwestern University in 1991. He completed a child clinical psychology internship at Babies Hospital, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, in 1991, a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in developmental research at Columbia University under Larry Aber in 1993, and a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the research and treatment of borderline personality disorder under Frank Yeomans and Otto Kernberg in 1995. Dr. Goodman was Instructor of Psychology in Psychiatry at Cornell University Medical College from 1995 to 1998 and was Assistant Unit Chief of the children's psychiatric inpatient unit. He also holds adjunct faculty positions at Columbia University and Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Dr. Goodman is the author of over a dozen articles on the development of psychopathology in high-risk infants, children, and adults. He published his first book, The Internal World and Attachment (The Analytic Press), in December of 2002.

Nancy R. Goodman, PhD, is a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist in Bethesda, MD specializing in intensive individual therapies with adults. She is a Training and Supervising Analyst with the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS and with two psychoanalytic institutes in Tampa, Florida. She is active in Division 39 of the American Psychological Association and in the International Psychoanalytical Association. Dr. Goodman is on the permanent faculty of PTI of NYFS and teaches in the DC Program. She is also on the faculty of the Washington School of Psychiatry and of the Tampa Psychoanalytic Institute. Dr. Goodman received her PhD from the University of Connecticut, an MA in psychology from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and her BA from Mount Holyoke College. Dr. Goodman has published in the areas of trauma, including Holocaust Trauma, in female development, and in psychoanalysis and film, and is interested in affect management, and in life transitions.

Nancy E. Griscom, LICSW, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Washington, DC. She works with adults, adolescents, and couples. She is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS and Chair of Faculty for the DC division of the institute. She is also an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychology at George Washington University, and on the faculty of three programs in the Washington School of Psychiatry: The Advanced Psychotherapy Program, The Central Concepts Program, and the Clinical Program on Psychotherapy Practice (which she also chairs). She is a graduate of Cornell University and the Catholic University School of Social Work.

Jane S. Hall, LCSW, FIPA, is a former President of the New York Freudian Society, and is a member of the IPA, ApsaA and CIPS. She is a founder of the New York School For Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and the first director of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program. A Training and Supervising Analyst who has taught, lectured, and consulted on how to deepen psychoanalytic work for the past twenty-five years, Hall is the author of two books: Roadblocks on the Journey of Psychotherapy (2004) and Deepening the Treatment (1998), published by Rowman & Littlefield. She is currently on the faculties of PTI of NYFS, NYSSP, and the Metropolitan Institute and was a founder of the New York School for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. A graduate of the Hunter College School of Social Work, the Institute for the Study of Psychotherapy, and the PTI of NYFS, Hall is in private practice in New York City.

Ellen R. Hirsch, CSW, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Manhattan, specializing in the treatment of adults and the treatment of problems that parents have with infants and toddlers. She is a graduate of both the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS Adult Psychoanalysis Program and the PTI of NYFS program in Parent-Infant, Toddler, Dyadic Treatment. She is a training and supervising analyst, and faculty member, at PTI of NYFS, and is also on the faculty of the Metropolitan Institute for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.

Leslie A. Johnson, PhD, is a graduate of the Adult Psychoanalysis Program of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS, DC Division. She holds a doctorate in Slavic Languages and Literatures from New York University and has taught at Trinity College in Hartford and at the University of Virginia. Licensed as a counselor, she has a private psychotherapy practice in Charlottesville, VA. She is a graduate fellow of the International Psychotherapy Institute (formerly IIORT).

Christopher S. Kido, LCSW, is an adult psychoanalyst, and a candidate in the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Training Program. His practice is on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, where he treats adults, adolescents and children. In addition to psychoanalysis he practices psychotherapy, family, and couples therapy. He is a clinical coordinator of the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Service Loss & Bereavement Program for children and adolescents. He has consulted for many years at the Community Action School, an alternative middle school in Manhattan. He is a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association.

Joshua B. Lerner, LCSW, BCD, FIPA, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Oradell, NJ specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents and adults. Mr. Lerner is a graduate of the British Psychoanalytic Society/Institute of Psychoanalysis. He was formerly Honorary Child Psychotherapist at the Anna Freud Centre in London as well as Consultant Psychotherapist and Senior Clinical Lecturer in Social Work at the Tavistock and Portman Clinics, where he was Chairman of the Joint Scientific Committee. Mr. Lerner was formerly Senior Faculty at the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Institute and Society and is currently Training Analyst, Supervisor and Faculty member of the Institute of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy of New Jersey and Faculty at the New Jersey Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis. Mr. Lerner's interests are in the area of primitive mental states, Object Relations theory and the relationship between Countertransference and Projective Identification.

Judith Schweiger Levy, PhD, is a clinical psychologist/psychoanalyst who specializes the treatment of adults, adolescents, couples, and children. She is a graduate of both the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS and the NYU Post-Doctoral Program for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. She is on the teaching and supervisory faculty of Westchester Center for he Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, and on the supervisory aculty of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis, and the City College Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program.

Kristine Shays Lupi, LCSW, is in private practice on Manhattan's Upper Westside. She is a psychoanalyst who, in addition, works extensively with issues of couples' conflict, dilemmas around fertility and pregnancy, and serious medical illness. She works with parents regarding issues from infancy through all developmental phases. Her experience also includes running mother/baby groups and groups for pregnant women. She teaches and supervises in the Psychotherapy Program of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS, at Metropolitan Institute and at NY Institute for Psychotherapy Training.

Kerry L. Malawista, PhD, is a Training and Supervising psychoanalyst in private practice in Potomac, MD, specializing in the treatment of adults, adolescents, and children. She is on the faculties of Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS, The George Washington University PsyD program, The Clinical Social Work Institute Doctoral Program, and the Washington School of Psychiatry.

Kerry Kelly Novick is a child, adolescent and adult psychoanalyst in private practice in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Trained originally with Anna Freud at the Anna Freud Centre (then Hampstead Clinic) in London, she completed her adult training through the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS. She is on the faculties of the PTI of NYFS, the New York University Psychoanalytic Institute, the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, the Michigan Psychoanalytic Council, and the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. She is a Child and Adolescent Supervising Analyst at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, is certified in both child and adult psychoanalysis by the American Psychoanalytic Association, and is a Certified Psychoanalyst of the Michigan Psychoanalytic Council. A founder of Allen Creek Preschool, a non-profit school in Ann Arbor accredited by the Alliance of Psychoanalytic Schools, Mrs. Novick serves there as Child Development Director. She has served as North American editor of the Journal of Child Psychotherapy, and on the Editorial Boards of Psychoanalytic Psychology, the Journal of Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, Richard e Piggle, and the Israel Annual of Psychoanalytic Theory, Research and Practice. She is President-Elect of the international Association for Child Psychoanalysis.

Jack Novick, PhD, is a Training and Supervising Analyst of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS and the International Psycho-analytic Association, certified by the American Psychoanalytic Association in child and adult psychoanalysis. He is in private practice of child, adolescent and adult psychoanalysis in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was formerly chair of the Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Training Program at the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute, where he is a Child and Adolescent Supervising Analyst. Trained at New York University, the Anna Freud Centre, and the British Psycho-Analytic Institute, he is also on the faculties of the Michigan Psychoanalytic Council, The PTI of NYFS, the New York University Psychoanalytic Institute, and the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis. Dr. Novick is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University Medical Schools. He has served on the Executive Council of the Association for Child Psychoanalysis, and on the editorial boards of Psychoanalytic Psychology, the Journal of Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, the Israel Annual of Psychoanalytic Theory, Research and Practice, Adolescenza, and Richard e Piggle. He is a founder of Allen Creek Preschool, where he serves as Research Director and a Family Consultant.

Marion M. Oliner, PhD, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in New York City, where she works with adults around many symptoms, including psychosomatic illness, infertility, depression, and character problems. She has conducted treatments in English, German, and French, and has had fruitful exchanges with colleagues in France, Germany and Austria, whose patients have continued their treatments here. Over the years she has taught widely, but most recently the course she has developed on Ethical Dilemmas in Psychoanalytic Practice has met with considerable success as it addresses a problem that most curricula have ignored until now.

Katherine Oram, PhD, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Manhattan specializing in the treatment of adults, adolescents and children. She is a member and training analyst in the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS as well as a graduate and supervisor at the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. In addition, she is a Clinical Associate of the City University of New York in the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program, as well as a Consultation Group Leader and therapist in The Fostering Connection, a non-profit group that recruits private practice therapists to work with foster children.

Steffi Ostroff, LCSW, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Manhattan, specializing in the treatment of adults and the psychoanalytic psychotherapy of adolescents and couples. She is a member of the Society of NYSPP and a faculty member of the NYSPP Child and Adolescent Program.

Miriam Pierce, LCSW, BCD, FIPA, is in private practice in Manhattan, where she works with with individuals and couples, and conducts parent/infant treatment. She is a graduate the Parent - Infant and Toddler Program of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS, and is a member of the New York Freudian Society. Frieda Plotkin, PhD, is a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist in private practice in Manhattan. She is interested in development throughout the life cycle and treats people of all ages, individuals and couples. For the past 15 years, she has worked extensively with grown children and their aging parents helping to resolve problems as family roles shift. Her innovative approach includes the evaluation and guidance of family members as individuals or as a group, in the setting of her office or in house visits. Dr. Plotkin teaches and lectures at The Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Psychiatry and of Geriatrics. Her publications include her prize-winning paper (Plumsock Award), "Treating the Older Patient: The Psychoanalyst's Experience."

Hadassah Ramin, LCSW, FIPA, is in private practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis with adults and couples, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. She is a board member, Training and Supervising Analyst and faculty at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS; a member of the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, as well as faculty and supervisor at the Metropolitan Institute for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She specializes in working with children of holocaust survivors, adoptees, and Baalei Teshuva and is fluent in Hebrew.

Monica J. Rawn, LCSW, BCD, is a Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS Training and Control Analyst. She is a Faculty Member and Training and Control Analyst at the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis. She was affiliated with the New York Center for Psychoanalytic Training, where she served on the Board of Directors and on the faculty, and was a Training and Control Analyst. At the Society for Psychoanalytic Study and Research, where she served as President and also Chair of Training, she was a faculty member, Training and Control Analyst. She is a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association. Monica J. Rawn is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Long Island, treating adults in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, and marriage counseling.

Gail S. Reed, PhD, LP, FIPA, is a Licensed Psychoanalyst (NY and VT) in private practice in New York City and in Salisbury, CT. She is a Fellow of the International Psychoanalytical Association and is Certified in Adult Psychoanalysis by the Board of Professional Standards of the American Psychoanalytic Association. She specializes in long term psychodynamic treatment of adults (psychoanalysis as well as treatments at lesser frequency) and treats patients in French as well as in English. She is a Training and Supervisory Analyst and Faculty of the Berkshire Psychoanalytic Institute, the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS and the Training Institute of the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis. She is on the Faculty of the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center. She holds an AB (1964), Magna Cum Laude with Honors in French from Bryn Mawr College, and a PhD (1976) in Comparative Literature from Yale University. She was awarded a Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship in 1964. Her psychoanalytic training began at the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis, from which she graduated in 1985, and continued through extensive private training with Jacob Arlow, MD, Lester Schwartz, MD, William Grossman, MD and several others. She was awarded the Recent Graduate Journal Prize (1985) of the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association for her article "Rules of Clinical Understanding in Classical Psychoanalysis and in Self Psychology: A Comparison" (Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, 35, 421-446). She is currently the Associate Editor for Foreign Books, Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association and a member of the Editorial Board of The Psychoanalytic Quarterly. She is President of the Group for the Study of the Psychoanalytic Process, Inc.

Katharine Rees, PhD, is in private practice in Manhattan, conducting psychoanalysis and psychotherapy with adults and children. She is a graduate of the Anna Freud Center for Child Psychoanalytic Training and Research. A Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS Training and Supervising Analyst, she is the founding Co-Chairperson, and faculty member, of the PTI of NYFS Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis Program. She is also on the faculty of the New York University Psychoanalytic Institute. Dr. Rees has published articles in The Psychoanalytic Study of the Child and Psychoanalytic Quarterly. She is a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association.

Phillida B. Rosnick, PhD, is a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist specializing in helping men and women find satisfaction in work and in their personal relationships. Dr. Rosnick is a Training and Supervising Analyst and the Institute Director of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS. She is an Instructor at the PTI of NYFS as well as Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She is a founding partner of Psychology Partners, a referral network for businesses and corporate firms in the New York Metropolitan area. Dr. Rosnick completed her degree in Clinical Psychology in 1979 from Columbia University, and did her clinical training at New York Hospital-Westchester Division, Cornell Medical College, where she became Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry until 1986 when she joined private practice full time.

Crayton E. Rowe Jr, MSW, BCD-P, is the founder of the American Association of Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work and is a founding member of The New York Institute for Psychoanalytic Self Psychology. He is a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association. He is a contributor to Progress in Self Psychology. He is the author of Treating the Basic Self: Understanding Addictive, Suicidal, Compulsive, and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity (ADHD) Behavior. He is co-author of Empathic Attunement, the Technique of Psychoanalytic Self Psychology, and is in private practice in New York City.

Shirley Herscovitch Schaye, PhD, graduated from NPAP in 1976 and NYFS in 1994. She is a Training and Supervising Analyst at both NPAP and the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS. Dr. Schaye's practice, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, involves the treatment of adults, adolescents and children. In addition to psychoanalysis, she practices psychotherapy, group therapy, family and couples therapy and supervises in these modalities. She has been on the faculties of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York University, Yeshiva University and has served as a consultant to the Guidance Department of the Horace Mann School. She is currently on Faculty at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry. While at McGill University, Dr. Schaye was awarded a two-year Canadian Mental Health Fellowship. At NPAP, she was awarded the Robert M. Lindner and John C. Gustin Scholarship. Dr. Schaye is a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association and the International Psychoanalytical Association. She teaches the Psychoanalytic Technique Course for NPAP and the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Technique course for the PTI of NYFS Psychotherapy Program. Currently Dr. Schaye serves as a Board Member of the New York Freudian Society and of the New York McGill Alumni Association. She is the Chairperson of the NYFS Membership and Communications Committees, and she has been editor of NYFS NewsBriefs since 1998.

Ellen Sinkman, LCSW, is a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist in private practice in Manhattan and in Westchester. She is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS. She teaches in the PTI of NYFS Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Program and at NY Counseling and Guidance Institute. Her paper, "The Creation of a Beautiful Self: In Search of Pygmalion, on and off the Couch," won the Senior Plumsock Prize of NYFS in 2003. She is a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association, IPTAR, NMCOP, and a Fellow of the NY State Society of Clinical Social Workers.

Phyllis L. Sloate, PhD, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in New Rochelle, specializing in the treatment of adults and children. She is Training and Supervising Analyst and Faculty at the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS; Supervising Analyst and Faculty at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, and the Westchester Center For the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy. She is a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association and Chair of the Psychosomatic Study Group, an Associate Member of IPTAR, and a member of the IPA. She has presented and taught widely on the topics of eating disorders and psychosomatics, and is interested in the contribution of early trauma to adult pathology.

Elspeth Strang, MA, LCSW, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Manhattan. She does psychoanalysis and psychotherapy with adults and psychotherapy with children and adolescents. Originally a musician and dancer, she holds an MA in dance-movement therapy from New York University and an MSW from Yeshiva University. She trained and began her career at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. There, she worked with outpatient adults and also trained in the therapeutic nursery. She began her psychoanalytic training at the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis (NPAP), and then entered the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS as an advanced candidate. Iris Sugarman, LCSW, FIPA, BCD, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Manhattan and Brooklyn, specializing in adults, couples and supervision. She is a member of NYFS and IPTAR, and a graduate of the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of NYFS, where she teaches.
